IDENTITY IN TYPICAL
'Identity in Typical' is an international research project focused on the system of Houses and Palaces of Culture in the former USSR, aiming at their modernization and adaptation to contemporary conditions. The project explores the past, present, and future of these unique cultural institutions.
The study covers more than 135,000 buildings that form a network of sociocultural centers. Special attention is given to architectural identity, cultural significance, and the role of these buildings in local communities. As part of the project, the team not only conducts research but also implements architectural renovation projects for cultural centers and develops new concepts.
Public programs, such as workshops, discussions, and exhibitions, continue to engage cultural center directors, local residents, and architects in finding solutions. The book Identity in Typical and the animated film created within the project help communicate key ideas to a wider audience.
The project aims to transform Palaces of Culture into modern community centers while preserving their historical value and adapting them to new cultural and social needs.
The project was funded by the Stimuleringsfonds.
